After the introduction of the new continuous granulation and drying system, ConsiGma™, GEA Pharma Systems is now working on expanding the continuous principle to the whole production line for oral solid dosage forms.

The most logical first step in establishing a continuous production line is to combine the continuous granulation and drying step with a tablet press, as tableting is already a continuous process which is currently used in a batch method. To combine these 2 steps in one line (including blending the external phase (lubricant, disintegrant, etc.) into the granules before tableting), GEA Pharma Systems has developed a small inline blender that can be installed between the two systems.

Blending of the raw materials before granulation can either be done using ConsiGma™ or the GEA Pharma Systems continuous blender.

Real time release of the product will be possible (using PAT sensors such as the Lighthouse Probe™) to achieve the full potential of a continuous production line.

Trials in the Process Development Center in Wommelgem show great promise for this revolutionary concept of continuous production and the first truly integrated continuous tablet production line will be revealed at Achema for visitors who register for the ConsiGma™ presentation (www.geapharmasystems.com/consigma).

A fully functional test line will become available for customer trials after the show.
