GEA wins Best Innovator Award
Düsseldorf, June 10, 2011 – At yesterday evening’s “Best Innovators 2010/11” awards at the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology in Berlin, GEA Group was honored as the mechanical engineering company with the most successful and sustainable innovation management in Germany.
“Being named industry winner of the prestigious ‘Best Innovator’ award underscores our goal to be at the forefront in shaping technological advances and to offer our customers the latest solutions at all times. This is backed by the cross-segment integration of all aspects of our expertise. Diversity is one of our strengths,” said Jürg Oleas, Chairman of GEA Group’s Executive Board. “GEA Group clearly and explicitly defined its growth objectives using the topic of innovation. The intelligent solution of promoting decentralized entrepreneurship in combination with company-wide innovation portfolio management was especially interesting,” noted Dr. Kai Engel, partner at management consultants A.T. Kearney and contest initiator, explaining the jury’s decision. The jury assessed exemplary concepts in development as well as organization and processes in innovation management for the seventh time in this contest, held under the patronage of the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology together with German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche and management consultants A.T. Kearney.

GEA Group structure:
With effect from January 1, 2010, the businesses of the GEA Group were grouped into five segments without altering the overall portfolio of the group. Effective March 24, 2011, GEA Group successfully concluded the takeover of Convenience Food Systems (CFS), who are headquartered at Bakel, Netherlands.
With the acquisition of CFS, GEA has added to its group one of the most multi-faceted suppliers of secondary food processing and packaging machinery (meat, fish, cheese). A new, 6th, GEA segment under the name GEA Convenience-Food Technologies is created following the expansion of the product portfolio. The structure provides a clear alignment of technologies and applications within the group.
