18 APR 2009

GEA Pharma Systems (GPS) will be exhibiting at ACHEMA 2009, showing its range of processing technologies for the manufacturing of oral and parenteral dosage forms.

Consigma™ continuous high-shear granulation and drying system
The system satisfies the pharmaceutical industry’s demand for continuous production to provide improved quality, flexibility and consistency for pharmaceutical processes.

One Consigma™ can run 500g in R&D, but can also run clinical trial, launch size, and any production size batches. There is no process scale-up as time is the only relevant factor in a continuous process. This allows manufacturers to reduce development time dramatically to reduce costs and bring products to market much faster. Read more about Consigma™ demonstration and technical seminar at ACHEMA.

GEA Courtoy will be showing the latest in tableting technology
The MODUL™ P and PERFORMA™ P small scale tablet presses are designed for different applications but share 80% identical components and GEA Courtoy’s most advanced compression technology.

MODUL™ P for fast product changeover, containment and versatility
The MODUL™ P is equipped with the patented ECM offering extremely fast product change-over, inherently better product containment and unmatched versatility. The MODUL™ P can easily be equipped with a WOL-ECM for high-containment applications or with a BL-ECM for bi-layer tablet production. With the standard C-ECM the MODUL™ P is perfect for a multi-product production environment where unmatched productivity is achieved thanks to product changeover times down to one quarter of conventional exchangeable turret machines.

PERFORMA™ P for top productivity in the long run
The PERFORMA™ P is the machine of choice for mono-production and long-campaign production runs. High productivity is achieved by a larger number of punch positions and a novel die design: the EDD (Exchangeable Die Disc) is a significantly more economical alternative to the conventional exchangeable turret. The PERFORMA™ P has the highest ratio of output to footprint on the market. At ACHEMA, PERFORMA™ P will be exhibited with the novel ABWS (Automatic Bulk Weighing System) offering a tremendous improvement in tablet sampling and automatic weight control. The ABWS is GEA Courtoy's latest addition to its range of unique & advanced PAT tools for better process control. Read more about our technical Compression seminar at ACHEMA.

The NEW FlexStream™ fluid bed will be exhibited for the 1st time at Achema 2009.
The Aeromatic-Fielder™ FlexStream™ Fluid Bed is a new Multi-Purpose Processor from GEA Pharma Systems that uses proven fluid bed technology to achieve granulation, drying and pellet coating (or tablet coating) in ONE processor.

Advantages of FlexStream™:

  • Only ONE product container for all unit operations
Fluid Bed Granulator - Fluid Bed Dryer - Fluid Bed Coater, ALL in 1 container
  • Only one design/height for all unit operations
  • Reduced building envelope in both height and footprint
  • Built in linear scale up
  • Ready for fully contained loading and unloading
  • Superior product homogeneity both for LOD and PSD

Impressive test data prove that, in addition to these commercial benefits, FlexStream™ gives superior product quality when compared with conventional top-spray granulation or wurster coating. Read more about our exclusive FlexStream™ seminar at ACHEMA.

PharmaConnect® - Plug and Play Multiple Processing for Formulation Scientists
PharmaConnect® has a single control system that allows multiple process modules to be attached. Typically this could be a range of PMA or Gral High Shear Granulation bowls, but the system also accepts GEA extrusion, spheronization and blending systems. The system is available in through-the-wall or mobile formats and has the ability to process batches from as little as 100g up to 25kg or more. Read more at PharmaConnect®

Eliminate the risk of Contamination in Freeze Drying
GEA Lyophil will exhibit the ALUS® (Automatic Loading and Unloading System)

ALUS® is not new but is something of an unsung hero in the world of pharmaceutical processing. Since GEA Lyophil was one of the first companies to manufacture the system some 25 years ago, ALUS® has made a huge contribution allowing manufacturers to keep contamination out of the product and protect the workforce from potentially harmful substances by removing, as far as possible, the operator from the processing area.

GEA Lyophil continues the development today and the system exhibited at ACHEMA 2009 will demonstrate the latest in ALUS® technology. A stationary push/pull ALUS® system, which loads and unloads pharmaceutical vials smoothly into and out from a freeze dryer with the minimum of operator monitoring. This frame-less transport of vials is suitable for integration into a RABS. Read more about Freeze Drying technical seminar at ACHEMA.

Improve your containment
Buck® containment technology will be showing its range of containment interfaces for the pharmaceutical industry. The company, which has recently moved from its home in Müllheim, Germany to the GEA Pharma Systems facility in Bubendorf, Switzerland, will be exhibiting on its Buck® MC Valve and Hicoflex® systems for the safe transfer of active ingredients and chemicals between IBCs (Intermediate Bulk Containers).

A new MC passive valve will be launched at ACHEMA that can be disassembled without the need of any tools making it very easy to take apart for cleaning. Read more about how much Containment do you really need? and participate in our seminar.
