At this year’s ACHEMA, GEA Niro will be available to discuss how GEA Niro’s
range of spray drying systems can be applied for production of pharmaceuticals.
The application of spray drying technology offers the pharmaceutical
industry a break-through within solid dosage formulations. By providing an
unprecedented particle control and allowing previously unattainable delivery
methods and molecular characteristics, it opens up new opportunities for new
formulations.
Spray drying offers several advantages including
increased bioavailability, modified release, aseptic production, particles for
inhalation, and improved compressibility.
Niro has developed a series
of spray dryers dedicated to manufacturing in the pharmaceutical industry. The
range of sizes begins with the R&D lab dryer, SDMICRO™ designed for only 30
kg/h drying gas and continues up to industrial size production GMP dryers with
a drying gas capacity of more than 10,000 kg/h.
The philosophy behind
the design is that a combination of standardised modules are used to meet the
requirement for a specific duty. Therefore, dryers of equal capacity may be
completely different with respect to design, configuration and physical size.
This allows Niro to focus specifically on the needs of the customer and the
demands of the process without physical limitations to the design of the
equipment. The dryers are designed to use hot air, or, when drying non-aqueous
compounds, nitrogen as the drying gas. They can be used for the drying of a
wide range of compounds that are based on acetone, methylene chloride, ethanol,
and other organic solvents.
As with all Niro plant equipment, each
system component meets the strictest requirements and regulatory standards.
